‘Hypno’ + ‘therapy’ (From the Greek word for sleep) (Treatment intended to relieve or heal)
Hypnotherapy is a very safe process used for a variety of reasons. It can help you to learn to relax deeply (particularly useful when experiencing sleep issues), change an unwanted habit (e.g. over-eating, smoking), conquer a fear (e.g. public speaking) or improve an area of your life (e.g. gain self-confidence, worry less). Hypnotherapy is acknowledged by the Royal Society of Medicine as an effective therapy for a whole variety of issues and should not to be confused with stage hypnosis.
During hypnotherapy, you will enter a very deep relaxed state; your conscious mind is turned down, in the same way that you ‘switch off’ when you are driving and go into ‘auto-pilot’, or watching TV and you are ‘inside’ the TV. It is when you are in this state that hypnotherapy works with your unconscious mind, and the therapy can take place and positive benefits can be felt in a relatively short space of time.
(Below is a breakdown of what happens in each session)
Session 1: Initial consultation (up to 90 minutes) When we meet for the first time we will explore exactly what it is that you want to achieve and how hypnotherapy may be able to help you. I will ask you some questions to gain a good understanding of your needs and wishes. I will then offer you a relaxation session whereby you will get to experience what it feels like to be hypnotized.
Session 2: Hypnotherapy (60 minutes) During our second meeting I will ensure you are feeling comfortable and happy to proceed then we will carry out the hypnotherapy that I will have personally prepared for you. After the hypnotherapy, we can go through the script that I used, and if there’s anything you feel you’d like to change or add, we can do that.
Session 3: Hypnotherapy + recording (60 minutes) In our third meeting, similar to the second one, I will ensure you are feeling comfortable and happy to proceed and then we will carry out the hypnotherapy again, with the newly amended script if this is the case. In this session you will receive a recording of your personalized hypnotherapy script. You can choose to have it on a CD or as an mp3 file on a memory stick. You will then be able to listen to your recording any time you wish in your own time.
Optional further sessions: You have the option of continuing to attend hypnotherapy sessions with me in the therapy room if this is your preferred choice.
